Washing car = dead car.

Washing car = dead car. Seems I'm getting water in the wrong place. Is this a common problem I can fix. It only does this when I wash the car but not when it rains (driving or parked).
After washing/drying I go to start the car and it cuts out. Car goes dead for approximately 2-5min. Then I get power again (key on) if I try to crank., it cuts out and I lose all battery power for the same amount of time.
About an hour later car starts up just fine and never has a problem. That is until I wash it again. Im kinda worried since I don't want to park somewhere and a heavy rain hits and then im stranded. (Hurricane season coming.)
Just wondering if anybody has run into this before. Tomorrow In going to detail it. I will put towels in the corners of the hood. I think that's where water is getting in.

You should also check for loose electrical connections at the battery, starter, grounds, and other key locations. This also commonly happens when loose connections get wet and/or experience temperature extremes.

Thanks I'll double check everything. If I had to guess I'm getting my starter wet. I did noticed when I drove my car and I started washing it that steam started coming out from the back part of the hood (closest to wipers). Not sure if this is normal.
