Default Battery tender hookup

I have a 2002 Camaro SS 35th LE. It sits a lot so have a battery tender on it. The battery is side mount so using the alligator clips but such a pain and the slip a lot. Want to connect using the rings but can't on battery. Any place else I can connect it? I was thinking here by the fuses has POS terminal. Any issues?

You shouldn't have any problems with that connection.

I usually use the clips on the battery but I like your idea

I use adapter posts for the side post battery and connect it there. Usually about $6-7 and use 3/8" terminals lugs.

Yup, just get some adapter posts and hook the pigtail up to them. I just unplug, tuck the pigtail (with cover) beside the battery, and go.

Hadn't seen that type of battery post adapter before. Good find.

Do those side terminal adapters fit well in the factory battery cable rubber ends? I know the factory terminal bolts have an unusually wide lip on them so they are retained by the rubber end of the cable when unhooked. Do these fit well without crushing or requiring modification to the factory cables?

The ones I used fit inside the rubber perfectly so no modifications needed, Just pry the factory part out and screw in the new one.

Yes! They fit perfectly! Sometimes you have to just pull the rubber back around the hole in the cable to install them initially, but they're a perfect fit.

The only thing that I understand is that on vehicles with computers you are supposed to ground the charger to the vehicle frame, that is not to put the negative cable to the battery.

Why? What difference would it make?

None, other than perhaps the same reason you do that with jumper cables... to avoid the possibility of a spark near the battery during connection. But a tight connection of the negative side of a trickle charger or any other device makes absolutely no difference electrically whether it's direct to the battery terminal or any other grounding point (unless, of course, your choice of ground point introduces unnecessary resistance to the circuit).

I suspect that this might be an example of internet information... kinda like remote starters in manual transmission cars chasing old ladies across parking lots.

...a battery tender is basically just a mini battery charger and I have never had any issues going positive to positive and negative to negative over the decades. BUT, I have learned the hard way, a couple of times actually, that if you forget to unplug the battery tender and start the car with it hooked up, it'll fry the battery tender. I've had to replace 2 over the years because I got in a rush and forgot to unhook the tender before I started the car... DOH!

This, exactly. I've had to replace 2 over the years because I got in a rush and forgot to unhook the tender before I started the car...

If it wasn't for my wife screaming while I'm backing out of the driveway, I would be on my 3rd tender.
LOL

I've started mine multiple times with the tender still connected and it never burned up the tender. But I still try to remember to disconnect before starting.

I have always connected the clips directly to the battery terminals. Now that I have a blower and with the intercooler tank sitting on top of the battery attaching the clips was a PITA so I bolted the quick connect pigtail to the cables and just plug/unplug it at the pigtail. Works pretty well.

I got one of these and installed it on the passenger side front under panel. Neat battery tender hookup without having to open and close the hood. Connected it to the battery with ring terminals similar to what others have posted.

No issues, that's where I hooked my Battery Tender leads to, added wire as I got tired of opening and closing the hood.
