Default best window motor

4th Gen FBody driver's side window motor

Just what the title says, but I'll add the caveat of Best window motor being manufactured right now. Some people used to have luck with dorman, but the quality has gone to crap.

Long story short, I replaced a dead window motor with dorman off of amazon.com. It works like $hit. It seems many others had the same luck as I did. Sounds like it's going to break. Since I'm going to be insulating my door, I figured now was a good time to replace it. I could go used junkyard, but I'd rather have a new quality one IF IT'S GOING TO LAST.

NAPA window lift motor or one like it is what went in my 99 T/A like ten years ago. It's more expensive but NAPA's electrical parts in my past experience have been quality.

The first time I replaced the driver's side window motor I used a Dorman motor and it lasted3 or 4 years. When it went out I pulled it and it looked like the bearing had lost it's seal or something, like rust running down from the shaft. I replaced it with a AC Delco motor and it has been fine for 2 years, so far. It does seem to run smoother up and down.

Usually, when people post this, their window is out of adjustment. Usually the felt stabilization pads inboard of the glass that add drag. People mess with them when they shoudn't and the proper setting is not intuitive.

Before giving up on your new motor, I would follow the shbox instructions for glass adjustment and make sure everything is as it should be.

This is wise advice from wssix. I once messed with the felt pads and goofed everything up for a while.

As to the original question, in my TA my 8 year old (and quite possibly original 22 year old) window motors are still working, although the passenger one is on its last legs. I will eventually replace it with a used OEM motor or at least something new that has a good warranty, because it sounds like all the current non-OEM stuff is meh. A few years ago I replaced one of my Yukon's motors with I think a Dorman or Duralast or whatever crap Autozone sells and it is going out again. Meanwhile the other 3 windows are still rocking the original Delco (I assume) motors from 2003 and working perfectly.

Also, I've found Amazon to be super sketchy when it comes to buying "quality" auto parts, and I avoid using them at all costs for anything critical or expensive. Too many refurbs sold as new, knockoff items, etc. This is just my opinion/experience, so take it as you want.

I did think about this. I really thought that I had done something stupid because it sounded so bad. I kept trying to adjust it to make it run smoother.....the motor sounded the same. I took it out of the door and tested out how it worked uninstalled without any window to move up and down......it sounded EXACTLY the same.

If you adjusted the felt pads, then I would definitely go back to the shbox instructions and start with step 1 on the adjustment and to all the way through. That's the only way to be sure you'll get back to the right place. Please let us know if you can't locate them.

Other thoughts:
- If your motor is noisy outside of the door, that's not normal. It should be quiet. If the motor is back out-of-the-box, you aren't the first person to experience this. (Or the 10,000-th...)
- If you are bought from Amazon, I woldn't be sure you got what you actually thought you were buying. Even if it came in a Dorman box, it might not be one. For things like this, I hightly recommend going to a parts store.
