Default Steering wheel upside down

Hi, I have a 98 camaro z28.. basically I rebuilt motor and also replaced my steering rack. When I reinstalled it, my steering wheel is now upside down.. I thought I put the steering shaft upside down into the rack but I guess the shaft only goes into the rack one way. I was wondering if anyone knows why it might be upside down? I’ve never removed the steering wheel and it was perfect and centered before I took everything apart… could it be I did actually put the shaft into the rack upside down and I’m jus struggling to put it in normally? I also could’ve maybe put on my tie rod ends a turn or 2 wrong than what they were before but I can’t see how that would affect the center point.. any help would be greatly appreciated

Turn the wheel lock to lock and count the turns. Once you know how many turns it takes you can stop at the halfway point. If the wheel is upside down at this point you'll have to disconnect the shaft and turn the wheel right side up.

When I rebuilt my rack and pinion I turned the input shaft all the way from the right to the left and counted the turns (2-1/4 turns lock to lock) so half of that would center the rack (1-1/8 from left or right to center). The trick is getting the input shaft in the correct position and checking it as it tends to rotate a bit when reinstalling. If its not centered you will end up with more or less turns when turning right or left.

jus so everyone knows lmao. i had to flip my steering wheel cuz the shaft only goes in one way into the rack.. i wont lie one side has like barley more angle than the other haha but oh well its not noticeable unless u check. probably can fix it by removing shaft from rack and turning it once but oh well maybe before my next alignment.
