2000 T Top Door Seals
Anyone have recommendations on where to get some? Not seeing much available other than OER but also reading those are not very good.
However... 99% of the people who ask this question on this site DO NOT need T-Top seals. Presumably you have a water leak and presumably that water leak is coming from the tops of your windows. Most of those issues are actually in the doors. Problems in the roof usually come from the center bar or other reasons.
Please share some details about what is going on.
Definitely have a large leak in the front center. Headliner was wet enough after a pretty hard downpour that it was dripping down on to the dash.
Also noticed the driver side front headliner area was a little damp but not nearly as bad as the center. You wouldn't know unless you were looking. I replaced the headliner previously and the backing on it is plastic which I think in this case is kinda nice.
I don't see or feel any dampness in the carpeting anywhere. Passenger side seems headliner seems ok.
After sleeping on it, I think even if I could find door seals, I'd leave that as a last resort as I'm afraid that I am going to destroy the OEM ones taking them off and then if the replacements are no good, I'm really in a jam. And as you said, probably (and hopefully) that's not the culprit.
Planning on getting into it this weekend to see what I can get fixed.
Any advice is appreciated....
What other problems can there be with the doors?
I did have rust forming near the windshield under the T-top, but I ground out the rust and put body filler in it and it doesn't seem to have returned.
Also, my trunk fills up with water now that the rear window edge gasket seems to have lost it's seal with the window, I am constantly having to push it back in to place, and the rain will knock it back out, but not sure if that is it exactly? Are those available?
What is everyone doing, making sure not to park their cars in rain? It sucks because you cannot even go through car washes...
Thanks,
Tim
- The roller on the back of the window bracket can break causing the rear of the glass to move forward
- Improper installation of the window regulator can cause the SMC inner door panel to rip, causing window misalignment
- Over adjustment of the window during motor replacements can cause misalignment (see the shbox instructions for the exact proper procedure to fix this)
I also reached out to a few local shops that specialize in classic cars, and they were able to track down better-quality seals than what I found online. Sometimes you get lucky with a smaller supplier who has old stock or better recommendations.
