Default Slow crank no plugs

Evening folks!

Back with a new head scratcher!

got the car all put back together and went to turn it over and just a click. Charged battery and same thing. Would go from full charge to 40%

battery was dead. Or so I thought. Put a new one in and same thing. Well ****. Pulled plugs to make sure wasn’t hydrolocked for some reason. Good there.

Couldnt roll it over by socket. Pulled the balancer loose and it would turn. Slow. Pulled the balancer off and yet again have to mill.

figured try and roll it over again and with a socket I can. Hit the key and it turns it over slow.

checked all my grounds. Even ran from the battery direct to the block and still didn’t fix.

only change from reassembly is new cam and lifters. Same springs, pushrods, and rockers (minus trunnion upgrade). When turn key it goes from 12.something to 11.5. So not a huge drop.

anyone have any ideas I’m not thinking of? Possibly starter?

thanks in advance because I am stumped.

-Cody

Add another ground to chassis. I had a similar issue with my 91 Z28. I added another block to chassis ground and problem solved

Yeah I had the starter checked and it tested as "passing" but was weak and throwing oil around so I replaced it.

Little better but not great still.
I then pretty much narrowed it to a ground so I am completely redoing my power and grounds similar to Devin Vanderhoof.

Pulled the large wires from outside the car and doing a positive and negative inside the car to a passthrough on the firewall direct from the battery.
Should be clean, easier to work on, and supply better power and grounds.
