Default 2002 ta wont start

Battery and terminals are new. Was running fine. Could it be the VATS? Anything else?

Starter or alternator. Does it crank at all? Is the security light on?

Intermittant. When it wont crank it clicks like a dead battery. I am changing the starter. Bypassed the vats. The light goes out. Only thing i can think of left is the clutch neutral switch.

Sounds to me like the clutch neutral safety switch is working then. I'm thinking poor connection somewhere. Be surprised how often it turns out to be just that.

Why do you think the safety switch is good?

Because you get a click, so that means the Starter Relay is energizing. If it's a loud click that you hear and it's under the car, sounds like the Starter Solenoid is hitting but the Starter Motor is out. Bad Starter.

New Battery doesn't mean **** unless you checked it with a meter and made sure it has the right voltage. I've seen dead new ones right off the shelf. I always check them there with my meter.

Narrowed it down to the ign sw rod. Looks like it came loose or broke from the linkage. I used a cam to look up into the column. Do i have to remove the tilt pins and remove the head to access this part?

How do you get the rod back on and why did it come off?
