running hot what could possibly be wrong now?

running hot what could possibly be wrong now? i finally got 500 miles on my car so i went back and readjusted the valves and changed the oil. i went to mobil 1 10w30 and a quart of lucas. i was on the way to church and it just ran hot. so i pulled over to make sure my water pump was still working and the fuse and relay checked out ok and i could hear it running. i took the thermostat out and put the water back in and its still heating up but not as bad. will a lt1 run cool without a stat like older cars? could the stat be my problem. or does it have something to do with the synthetic oil? lol

do NOT run ur LT1 without the stat. check ur stat with some hot water to make sure its opening at the right temp and all the way. the synthetic oil is fine. could b a number of problems.. timing, radiator, air pockets etc..

The car will runner hotter without a thermostat. The problem is the coolant won't stay in the radiator long enough to cool off before it goes back into the motor without a thermostat. Technically i would think your car would run cooler on synthetic oil since there's less friction in the motor but either way it wouldn't have anything to do with your overheating problem. I'd try a powerflush of your coolant system, if your car has a lot of miles and the coolant hasn't been changed you can get build up in there. Also how hot is the car running? Is it over heating or just getting hot? These car from the factory always run hot, i believe the first cooling fan comes on at 220 and the second at 234 so for it to run in that range is normal.
