Default gas smell?

Hi folks
97 Z-28 LT1/M6 (my daily ride) - in the morning when I start and drive the car about a 1 mile, stop at a red light I get a strong smell of gas. I replaced the gas cap but still have. The wild part of this is, after that I never smell until the next day. What could this be?
thanks
Bill

Or the the supply/ return lines to the fuel rails. If you have taken them off at all, the O-rings might need replacing

No Service Engine light or codes - only happens in the morning.

Have not taken the any fuel lines a part - it just happens in the morning, once the car is warmed up, no smell at all.

The issue might bee that while the car is off for a long period (over night), the pressure in the system will drop and allowing an o-ring somewhere to relax and allow gas to seep out. As soon as the key is turned on, the system pressurizes, the o-ring seals, but there is gas on the engine somewhere and eventually it burns off and the smell goes away. You'll just have to take a morning to get in there and feel around before starting the car. Preferably a day off. Check everything, lines, pressure regulator, filter under the car, injectors, even the tank and lines.

Hi SAPPER
I will gave it a try and complete checkout the car for a gas leak. Does these year car have a re-circulator system for gas fumes? Does it have a Canister?
Thanks
Bill

The fuel system has a feed and return line. any excess fuel or vapor is returned to the tank. It is a pressurized system.
