Default ABS INOP and AIR BAG lights on...help!

Hi I'm Jared and new, from the f-bodyhideout.

Before I pay a mechanic $50 for the stupid diagnostic tool check, thought I'd run the scenario by the smarter folk here at ls1tech:

95 Trans Am, LT1. My ABS INOP and AIR BAG gauge cluster lights won't turn off, well after ignition. Some background: I installed a single 10" and deck, wiring, etc. over christmas break and did some other mods, all while the battery was disconnected. The only thing I can think of that would affect these warning lights is my steering wheel tuner pod modifications. I basically took them out and found the two wires (one ground, and the other the wire that's hot when headlights/parking lights go on) and rigged up a small red bulb to shine out of the empty pod holes where I put some aluminum mesh. (pics are on cardomain in my sig). Now turns out these bulbs get too hot and one of them melted a small portion of the rubber inside the pod hole, maybe a cubic centimeter's worth. Could this have turned on my AIRBAG light maybe? And why on earth would my ABS INOP be coming on? Did I start it in too cold of weather and bust something? Yeah I'm totally stumped. I might also be totally stupid, but that remains to be seen.

Thanks a lot!

Check your third brake light (high mount). If it goes out it could trigger the light. Thats what happened on mine at least. Replaced the bulb and off the light went. GM also does some interesting routing through that brake light...some systems run their cruise control through that bulb so if the bulb goes out, so does the cruise. I guess it helps you know when the light is bad. Not sure about the air bag light...

If you hooked on of the grounds that are mounted to the wheel fender to the power distribution block it will cause both those lights to be on. It happend to me after I put the new motor in.

Vortec, can you elaborate? Like, directly ON the fender? I guess I'm a little confused. Maybe a wire got loose and fell onto the distribution block you're talking about? Where's the block located? I drilled a new hole through my firewall by the glove compartment, but I don't think I hit anything. Thanks!!!

The distribution block is the red block where the positive battery cable runs to power all the accessories. I attached the ground wire for the abs and air bags accidentally. I ended up having to ground both to when they shoould have been which is the ground stud located a couple inches below where the distribution block goes. I think there is a ground wire that goes to the ground stud.
