Default idler pulley squiking ?

i recently got this 99 ss with 67k miles and couple of days ago i started noticing squicky noises from the engine bay. I did some researches and found out that Idler pulley goes bad on ls1. Has anyone had this problem. How hard is it to replace this pulley. Any input is appriciated.

Replace both belts FIRST !

I wasted $70 on a tensioner when it was the $13 AC belt the whole time

I would do the belt first as well, I had sqeaking on my 03 GTP and I thought for sure it was the tensioner. Ended up being the belt.

Idler pullies are cheap and easy to replace. The stupid GM ones are plastic, and most replacement ones are a nice metal pulley.

The bearings on my idler and tensioner pulley were sealed bearings. The seal is plastic and was very easy to remove and replace with a tiny screwdriver or pocket knife tip. You can repack your bearings and see what that does. That'll only take a half-hour and cost nothing.

You could buy a belt and see what that does. Save the one you take off and keep it for an emergency spare.

The tensioner and the idler pulley are less than $10 each. I got mine at Advanced Auto parts. I replaced the idler pulley and the squeak went away. I still have the tensioner pulley but have not put it on. It's been 4,000 miles now and still no squeak.

Whatever you choose, it's as easy as falling off a barstool....but not nearly as fun.
