A4 oil level Hi…
I know that the best way to check the level of the oil in your A4 is after trip. This is to be sure that the transmission is worm enough. My question is? Every time when I check the level of the oil after long trip or short the oil level only reach the first hole in the worm area. What does this mean? less oil or I'm in the safe side?

If you're in the "warm band" (checkered area on stick) you should be ok. Mine always stayed in the middle. When we did a converter swap we refilled the tranny til it was at the top of the band and the extra fluid just leaked through the rear seal until it was normal agian. You can add a little if you want to get the level up and see if it will hold. Remember your stick may also be shorter or tube longer too.

Getting the fluid level right IMO is a PITA in these cars. Fluid at normal operating temp after 15 miles, outside temp >50 degrees, 10 min after temp guage moves and remains steady for 10 min, level, in park, move lever through each gear range, pausing about 3 secs in each range, back to Park, let engine idle for three minutes more, check. My car was a couple quarts low after the TC install, shifted weird so I knew something was wrong. Should'nt be that much work.
