Unhappy Yikes!! No Lites!!

Help.. I have a 98 Z 28 convert A4 w/89,000 miles on it(It runs like a dream) About 3 -5 weeks ago, my wife and I noticed our remotes would not operate consistently. Replaced the remote batterys and re- synched 'em per owners manual. 2 weeks ago, the speedo and tach started twitching... about every 20 - 30 seconds, both needles would twitch right and then come back to the correct reading; the dash lights would dim or flicker at the same time. 2 days after this, I heard a clicking sound like contacts making connection up under the dash. Within 24 hours, the headlights quit working, no low or high beam (but fogs, turn signals, etc still work fine) and the switch would not turn. Being the shade tree mechanic I am, I assumed I had a bad switch so I replaced it. I had headlights one evening only, the next morning the switch rotated but no lights. I pulled the switch and you could hear the circuit breaker inside had come loose. (By the way, I pulled the old switch apart and the breaker contacts in it were fried)
Interesting enough, with the switch disconnected (instrument light dimmer switch connected) everything else cleared up, no twitch and the remotes are working fine. I am thinking I have a ground problem somewhere but don't know for sure. Any ideas??

It's the control module that sits behind the stereo that controls the auto lights. If it is bad even turning the lights on manually won't work. I had the same problem at about the same mileage. The part runs I believe about $125 new from Chevy or $50 from the average salvage yard. I did some poking around and found a completely clueless salvage yard and pulled it myself when the mech on duty had no idea what I was talking about. The cost...$25, what a deal! Search for the thread that I had started about a year ago concerning this or feel free to PM with any questions.
