Im Going Crazy!
it stripped the plastic gear. i tighten the motor to the housing and flip it over. two days later it strips the other side. i get the brass gear, fine for a week and then is strips that. i look where it stripped and see it is engaging kinda low so i shim it to push it down some and flip it over. TWO DAYS LATER IT STRIPS AGAIN.

This may seem obvious (not trying to sound like an *** but I know I will), replace the headlight motor with another one. It sounds like something is wrong with the mechanism that senses the load and turns off the motor. Thats assuming that that mechanism is housed within the headlight motor. It could also be down stream in the electrical system somewhere (i dont think so, though).
