Default car keeps overheating

My 94 z28 keeps overheating. It all started after I put a new thermostat in. The car just kept overheating. Then I flushed the radiator for about 20 minutes and it seemed to go away. A couple of nights later i start my car and went down the road and it overheated in less than 2-3 minutes. I look behind me and I see that my car is just dumping my coolant. it caused me to blow a head gasket. I'm currently getting the head gasket fixed. I was wondering if it might be a clogged radiator or the water pump maybe dead. Any input would help.

Does the car have a lot of miles on it?

If it does and still had the stock water pump, that would be my guess.

Yeah or air is still in the system and it made its way out later. (has happened to me just like you said.) I keep a spare container of water with a screwdriver incase i need to stop and bleed off the system again. Anytime you open the system up it can get more air in than what you think. If it keeps doing it however then it is your water pump.

I had my water pump go out on me right after i replaced my opti. It almost seemed like it ruined while sitting after it dryed for a few days. I say that because it showed no signs of going out before that.

I'd say air in the system since it did it after the t stat install. There' two bleed screws to take care of that problem, one is on one of the heater hoses and the other up around the pass. side of the TB.

agreed. the system can be a bitch to bleed correctly and sometimes can be run for a good bit before u get another pocket built up. i always drag around some coolant, screwdriver, and towels whenever i crack the system open and go drive around for at least 20-30 min to make sure it's bled.

thanks i'll give that a try. I bled the system once but maybe not enough. I get the car back in a couple of days and I hope that fixes it.
