oil change light??

oil change light?? I just changed my oil a little less than 1000 miles ago, but actual time that has gone by is about 2.5 months at least......my oil change light came on.... so i checked my level and it was perfect, no burn off and only slight discoloring of the oil, but there usually isn't any after 3000 miles so i definitely wouldn't expect any after only 1000 miles.......eventhough i don't drive her on a daily basis, when i do drive i usually drive the car pretty hard and i might be imagining it, but it feels like she doesn't pull quite as hard.....or maybe it's just because it is so damn hot out.....any thoughts on this.........edit.....oil i use is Castrol Syntec 5-30

yeah i know how to reset it, but i was just wondering if there might be a problem.....educate me here, but i thought the sensor that trips that light works based on oil wear does it not????
......like i said i drive her hard 
Did you reset it when you changed the oil? Because if you didn't, it doesn't know you have fresh oil. It's just gathering data from the last time it was reset. Your driving habits will dictate when it comes on not the condition of the oil.
