got an idle problem

got a problem hey i have a question. when i drive my 94 formula around for more than 20 mins it does something wierd. When im at a stoplight or stopped for any other reason my tachometer jumps around and sometimes my car lunges forward a little bit. My car has died on me once after it did this at a stoplight, but it started right back up and was fine the rest of the way home. Anyone have any idea of what this may be? i'd appreciate it if anyone could help.

Is anything happening at all with your gauges (temperature, alternator, oil pressure, etc).
There are several things that I would check. 1st thing would be to check the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) located on your intake elbow. That can get all crummy and need a good cleaning.
Also, maybe the TPS (Throttle position sensor) is going. That's right on the intake manifold on the opposite side of the throttle cable pully.
Also check the following:
Wires, plugs, optispark, and air filter.
Let us know if there are any other symptoms....

thanks for your help man, i'll get my mechanic buddy to check those for me...thats what friends are for hah. When i'm at a stop the other gauges are completely fine and still. occasionaly when i turn fast the oil gauge moves and the gas gauge moves but thats normal and they always go back to where they are supposed to be. any idea of how i can check the optispark without taking my whole car apart?
AHAh.... The opti is a PITA!!!! 
I changed mine twice! The only way to check it thoroughly is the hard way but you might be able to pull the hose off and shine a flash light in there. If you have moisture in there.... you have a problem. The good news is.... if you really have moisture in there, you would notice sputtering under accel AND idle so the chances are slim.... Your mechanic buddy might have more insight than me. I just do what I need to keep mine rolling.... Good luck man!!
