fog lights
fog lights I have a 99 Trans Am and I saw another one just like mines and it had its fog lights on without its headlights up, Does anyboby know to do that, One of my buddys told me that i have to change the gears in the headlights, is that true. any help would be great. thanks.

If the gears in your headlight motor are stripped and making the nasty grinding sound when you put them up or down a strange side effect is for the headlights to come up on the second setting.
i got a better question...is there a way...to have the brights and the foglights on at the same time??...j/w cuz if you've looked at it it looks badass...wit all 4 driving lights on and fog lights..and yellow parking ltos my friends car was fucked up and his fog lights stayed on...it was..just a wiring problem i believe in his car though.
You can pull your e brake up 1 click before you start the car and then turn the switch 1 click. this will give you parking / fog lights only at night. I use this for TnT at night for a little less wind drag from the air brakes / headlights.
Some where some one had a way to rewire the lights to get them all on at once. this is illegal BTW to much light output. Not sure if a cop would ever know though.

If your gear(s) are messed up, you will not be able to turn your fogs on by themselves. The way the motors are set up and everything is wired, all correct light function essentially hinges on the headlights, which hinges on the motors sending the signal that they are either on or off, up or down. When the gears get stripped, wrong signals get sent...causing a clusterf$% of GM headlight misadventure.

for the second question ... YES you can add a wire to a relay in the engine bay to keep the fog lights on while the brights are on haveing all 6 lights lit up. I've done the mod to my car and been running it that way for 3 years now with no problems. With our pathetic lighting pattern in the rain and less than adequate lighting any other time I needed all the light I can get so when I found the mod I did it right away. Truthfully it's not a huge diffrence but, like you said it does look badass!

I don't remember cutting a wire when I did mine though. I think I just pulled the connector pin then soldered the Xtra wire directly to the relay ... or I got a blade style crimp connector ... crap I don't remember it was 3 years ago
I can go check if it means that much to you. Do a search in google for f-body high beam fog light mod and you should pull up a few others too as well as change some of the search words will bring up a few more ... ie... trans am fog light mod .. etc

IF you have stripped gears it will have different effects on the opperation of yoru lights. if everything is working correctly.. . this is what will happen
4 settings plus fogs.
setting 1) all lights are off.
setting 2) turns on amber lights up front and rear in the back....this also turns your backlights on the dash/ radio.. in this position you may turn on your fog lights... so now you have ambers/fogs on... you can turn your fogs on and off in this position.
setting 3) headlights pop up... ambers stay on... fogs can be turned on and off...
Setting 4) going back to setting 2 from setting 3. will turn off headlights but leave assemb in the up postion until moved to setting 1. Also in this postion the fogs can be turned on and off. ambers are still on.
For some reason (*unknown to me*) if you have any motor problems operation will very... I strongly suggest using the brass gear replacements.
