starter problems

starter problems recently when i go to start my car it makes grinding noises like the teeth on the starter are stripped, but it only does this like 1/2 the time. sometimes it grinds so i quit cranking then go to crank it over again and it catches fine and starts right up. what do you think is causing this? do i just need to cough up the cash and replace the starter?

maybe only there is a certain spot of the teeth are missing and every now and then it will catch on good part. thats what i would think so ya u would have to buy a new starter unless u could just find the vendix for it and just replace it.
