camaro ignition tumbler help!!!!
I have a 96 camaro, i know, not a LS1, but I am having trouble turning off the car. I believe the lock release button is worn out. I can not find any information out there how to replace the dang thing. I would greatly appriciate any and all help you guys can give. Thanks

I have a 96 camaro. The problem is the car has trouble turning the key to the off position. I believe the lock release button is worn out. Does anybody know how to change the igniton tumbler? Any and all help would be great. thanks

1. remove the steering wheel
2. disconnect the negative battery cable
3. remove the air bag coil
4. insert the key in the ignition but leave it in the lock position
5. remove the lock retaining screw
6. disconnect the ignition switch connector at the bottom of the column
7. remove the wiring protector
8. disconnect the retaining clip from the lock housing cover sleeve
9. gently pull the wire harness up through the column
10. remove the lock cylinder
Installation is the reverse.

I have the same tumbler in mine. I don't even have to push the lock release to turn it back all the way. Strange.... I never heard of problems with the tumbler and this is the second one I read this morning!
Hopefully its not too hard to change out cuz I've been thinking about changing mine too.
You might be able to shoot some WD-40 in there for now. But wait to read more posts here before you do it. There is some circuitry inside the keyhole and I'm not sure if the WD-40 would hurt it or not.
