Default Weird ticking noise coming from engine

I did an oil change about a week a go and since then i keep getting this ticking noise coming from inside the engine block (2001 ls1) or in the intake manifold. It only does this once its heated up a little bit and then it stays. I put moblie 1 0w-40 with a mobile m1-107 oil filter. It is consistent everytime i drive the car. I usually but 10w-30 in my car, but my last oil change i had done when my car was in a shop. They did realy crappy job with some of the other stuff that need fixing and im wondering now, if they even put synthetic oil in the car.

Please let me know what could possibly be causing this ticking sound, cuz im at a total loss here at what to do.

My car ticked pretty bad when I used Mobil 1 0W40, especially when the oil got hot. My last oil change I switched to Mobil 1 5W40 and that seemed to help quite a bit.

Since someone else changed your oil, it might be a good idea to check your oil level if you haven't already.

My car has always had piston slap i know that. Piston slap is more of a knocking sound and makes less sound when the engine heats up. This sound is a ticking sound like a watch, but of course louder, and only starts once the car has heated up. The sound is also a lot faster than piston slap at idle about 5 ticks per second where my piston slap is maybe 1 per second. I can't really hear the tick over 15 mph, but i do have a loud mouth with no mufflers so it is rly loud.

Anywayz i'll be doing an oil change back to 10w-30 this sunday so i will let you guys know if this solves the problem.

I had that same kind of noise... ticking coming from what seemed like the center of the block. Ended up being three spun crank bearings and two bent pushrods. Resulted in me needing an entire rebuild. Hope you don't have the same luck I do.

Well i did my oil change back to Mobil 1 10W-30 and k&n 1007 filter. The ticking noise is now at a minimal and my car sounds like it use to. The piston slapping also is much quiter. Its also running a lot better and smoother overall. I don't know why my car didn't like 0w-40, but im just glad to have it back to its normal kick *** self . Thanks for your input guys.

My car makes so many weird noises right now a sound clip would be useless from me. But when my dad listened to the car he said he thought it was that canister as well. Was there any problem with yours or was it just loud ?

I love how every post I read regarding an engine noise generates the token "piston slap" response. Growling near water pump... piston slap. Ticking near vac line... piston slap. Yeah piston slap sucks, yeah it's all too common, but a diagnosis of cancer based solely on someone having a tickle in their throat isn't very helpful.

bad oil filters can starve your valvetrain of oil. frams are fairly notorious for that. no oil in valvetrain = click click click

if you changed the oil and it diminished the noise, im betting on oil and filter.
