Question Compressing Caliper Pistons

I took a set of front pads as low as they can go and cannot compress the caliper pistons enough to even get a used set on . I'm using a big C clamp, but they won't go in but a little bit. I also opened the bleed valve to give the fluid somewhere to go, but no luck. Any tips?

Thanks
BobP

If the piston is out really far sometimes they try to go in crooked and get bound up.Try to pay close attenion on how your compressen them back in.

Good suggestion. I'll try it out again this week.

Thanks

Did you take the lid off your MC?

Yes, I loosened the MC lid aling with the bleed screw. I think Tuff is on the right track here and the piston is a bit canted.

Thanks for the suggestion.

And they are fairly cheap at any local auto store. I nabbed mine out of the bargain bin at Car Quest. 3 bucks.

I had it happen to me on my old buick. That piston would not move in or out. I tried everything and nothing would move it. I had to bite the bullet and buy a new caliper, twice (second one was covered under warranty)... So far, my T/A never gave me that problem.
