Default Fail codes for coil 5 and Misfire

Hi Folks
I went to the track Sunday and had a strange problem. I made my first run, everything looked Ok, went back to the pits and turned off the car. Once I restarted the car for my second run - about 40 minutes later, my SES light was coming on - sometime it would stay on - had to clear it many times. I was setting P0300 engine misfire detected and P0355 Ignition Coil #5 Control Circuit. Made the run anyway - maybe I should have not but oh well. Back in the pit could hear popping in the exhaust once in a while. I left the track to go home because it looked like I was running on 7 cylinders. Going home doing 65mph - NO CODES, SES off. It has not shown up again - I tried to see if it would happen again - no way. What would it show up, bad coil? At the track, I checked the plug wire, electrical connection, everything looked good. What could it be Coil, wiring, PCM, Spark plug or wire, values, head gasket???
Thanks

Bill

Try swapping the coils around. See if the code follows the coil.

Hi
the problem is the error has gone away and has not returned. I am afraid if I go to track again, the error may happen when it is WOT - I will not see, just focusing on the RPMs and shifting.
Thanks
Bill

I would check all the coil connections first, even if the code has went away.
