Default white smoke from oil tubes?

I was at lunch yesterday and ran into this guy who has a 2002 Z28. We got to talking and he showed me something that i have never seen before. He left his car idleing and popped the hood. He removed his oil cap and dipstick. There was white smoke puffing pretty heavily out of both the oil filler tube and the oil dipstick tube??? I felt bad b/c i had no idea what this could have been. Please help!

I've asked a few knowledgable people i know and they feel that it is likely a bad ring on a piston causing blowby. When the smoke came out it would puff at the same speed as the piston moving...Probable?
