cutting off when going in gear??

cutting off when going in gear?? We recently replaced the optispark with a new one from GM, the battery and alternator are new and the tranny was rebuilt days ago. However everytime we cut the car off we have to jump it to get it started again then when we put in gear and first accelerate it almost completely dies. I have no clue where to start i tried with the small things and simple now im lost.
If you have to jump it to get it restarted, something is killing the battery quickly. I would double check ALL of the connections. Make sure you didn't reverse polarity anywhere. Also, make sure the belt is routed correctly. Does the car die if its just at idle? How many cranks does it take to start when you're jumping?
diagnose it for shorts somewhere. My pontiac bonneville had that problem where i had to hold the pedal to start it and keep it running. Sometimes it would idle by itself. some times it wouldn't. never fixed it. trans blew. i said screw it.
