Gauge Clutster keeps resetting

It seems like once or twice a week when I start up my car my gauges reset. The tach and the speedo go all the way to the left then come back and my trip odometer resets. Anyone know what the problem is?

Happened to me twice, both times it was a battery going bad. Friend of mine actually had this happen this morning on his WS6, and sure enough the battery tested bad.

Does this permanately erase the mileage, or does it go back to normal once the battery is changed?? Miles are stored in the computer or in the cluster itself?

Yep, time for a new battery, did it for the longest time in my old '99z till it finally died. Changed the battery and good to go, mileage was still correct.
