Default trashed the fuel pump

I went out and let the car heat up to 185 then gave it a 40-120 run on a nice stretch of highway. After that I went to a field and did a few donuts and stuff then gave it 3 1/4 mile passes within 15 minutes. The entire night of donuts and racing lasted about an hour maybe an hour and a half. Afterwards I let my car sit for 15 mins and not 5 after I started it, it began to bog down when I tapped the throttle. Then it died while rolling and wouldn't start.

I had the pump replaced today, but I'm wondering if I did something wrong or the pump was already bad. The car only has 50,000 miles on it. How much time should I give the car to cool down between 1/4 mile runs? I'm kinda new to sports cars and assumed the TA would be able to handle that kind of punishment but now I have some doubts.

Thanks for responses.

Hope you replaced the fuel filter when you changed the pump.

Many fuel pumps fail early because people do not change the fuel filter often enough. I like to change them every 10,000 miles....15,000 at most.

If you bought the car used, then it could be possibile that the previous owner(s) didn't ever change the filter.

Also, running the tank dry can easily damage an EFI fuel pump. If you or the previous owner ran the tank empty a few times that would likely shorten the life span as well.

my mechanic did it and I'm sure he did everything necessary. He actually says the car was in better condition than any '98 he's ever seen so that made me kinda happy. The more he works on it the more impressed he is, but as long as I know a few races didn't make it go bad I'll be releived of some stress.

And BTW, how long should I wait between WOT runs like 40-120 or 0-100??

Many of us have hot lapped (pass after pass, no cool down inbetween) these cars at the track time and again without pump issues.

Honestly, a few WOT runs isn't going to kill a pump unless it was already on the way out for some other reason.
