Default Location of the reverse lights switch

Generally speaking, where is the switch located that sends the signal to turn on the reverse lights? My uncles got an older S10 pick up and the reverse lights went out and I'm trying to help him replace the switch but I don't have a single clue where to start looking for it, is it located somewhere on the trans? or is it an internal thing or what?

Its a 5-speed manual, if it matters.

Look where the shifter bolts to the trans. It should be sticking out of the trans itself.
