issue with sputtering

issue with sputtering just within the last 2 or so days, when i start the 1998 LS1 T/A up, my battery almost seems to run just a tad hot. after putting her in drive, and taking off i notice that it sputters, and jerks. it only does it when accelerating. and it doesn't do it all the time. sometimes she runs perfect, other times, she doesnt. when it sputters, i can also tell a difference in power. if i go WOT when its occuring, theres no where near as much power as usual at the wheels. I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. I kinda think it may be plugs and wires, but a buddy who knows alot more about the LS1 than me, said it might be an alternator problem. any suggestions? i am going TDY next week for 2.5 months, so sadly shes gonna have to sit at a friends house and wait for me to get back to take care of her.
I've been having a similar issue with mine that I'm still troubleshooting. Based on what I have checked, its doubtful that it is an alternator issue and chances are it has more to do with tuning or the fuel system. Have you modded your car any?
An easy thing that has fix others studdering has been changing the fuel filter, another was changing the crank position sensor, and others have been new plugs. I havent tried the crank position sensor yet but I think I will in the near future just to rule it out.
