Tail light question

Tail light question I have a 01' trans am and i was looking at my tail lights last night for the 1st time in the dark sense i bought the car a week ago, and the lights only light up the inner lights and form like a square light and it seems like both outside parts of the light were it slightly curves around the back of the car to the side are dark even when i brake it is dark is that how they are suposed to light up or is it suposed to be bright all the way accross.

The outside bulbs do not light for braking. They only come on with the parking/headlights. It is a very small bulb, so if it wasn't that dark outside, you may not have even noticed it. You can replace it with a bigger bulb if you want. I forgot the bulb number, but it looks exactly like the original, except it's twice as big.

I knew I had a pic of this somewhere....
The small bulb is the stock bulb. They both have an identical blade type fitting that plugs into the socket. As you can see, it's twice the size, and looks much better when lit, than the dinky one does. Don't worry, the bigger bulb won't damage anything. Mine's been in there for a couple years now.
