yet another plug question?
Also my #7 plug had a small amount of oil on the threads. Does this mean I have a seal going bad or is it somewhat common when using synthetic oil since it is so thin? Was previously using Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 but switched to the Castrol 0w30. Any input to attack the problem before it gets to bad would be appreciated. And thank you to all for your in depth contributions on this site, the info has been priceless.
Kurt-
Oil on the plug is probably due to a leak in the valve cover area. Not the end of the world, just can be messy. Leaks tend to go towards the rear then drip down.
Check out the valve cover on that side.
Funny you should mention the "oil on the threads", my #7 does that a little bit too. No oil on the tip of the plug, just on the outer most threads. Never could figure out why, but best I can tell there is no leak at all from the valvecover or anything above the plug. Car runs perfect and uses no oil so basically I just ignore that......
I will say the car held up well for hitting a good size buck at 80mph, never even attempted to brake. Shattered windshield, both air bags deployed, cracked bumper, broken rear view mirror, and a nice hoof mark up the hood.
No problems after the fix though. Funny as hell though driving like jim carey from Ace Ventura with my head out the window!!!!
