AC compressor, $700 - WHAT??
AC compressor....$700 WHAT?? #$@*@ Hey guys I went to check on doing my AC and the guy told me that it was gonna be $700 for the compressor and comp. clutch. I did my AC and there was no clutch for the compressor. If there is one does it cost that fien much???

I got my rebuilt compressor and a new dryer, plus a new orifice tube at Advance Auto for about $350. A flush & fill at a local shop was $140. Did the work myself and it wasn't as bad as some starters I've replaced.

I got a new AC Delco compressor through the dealer for
$361.
Actually the dealer was cheaper than even the big AC
parts warehouses in my area.
The drier and the manifold hose were also AC Delco and
were about $82 each.
(road kill cracked my compressor and FUBAR the manifold
hose).
Total cost for all these items including labor was about
$1K.
AFAIK the clutch assembly was included with comp.
(every one I ever bought new or rebuilt has been).

If your compressor is fried, make sure you change out the orifice tube as well. Think of it as a freon filter/expansion valve. When the compressor takes a dump, that thing gets packed full of aluminum and its nothing pretty. Its right where the liquid line goes into the a/c housing thing. A new one is like 5 bux or somthing at an autoparts store.
See? $275 is hella better than $700!! Maybe if yak's nice enough, he'll throw in one of those flux capacitors too!
