Default Disengage Ebrake - Working Under Car

I saw a write-up that stated to disengage the e-brake prior to working under/lifting the car. Is this a safety issue? Wouldn't you want to engage it to prevent the car from rolling? Thx!

What was the write-up about? What was it talking about fixing/changing? There's some instances where you don't want the brake engaged. (Certain work on the rear axle, rear brakes I think, some tranny work depending on whether you're an M6 or A4...etc) For example, if you need to disconnect the e-brake cable if you're changing rears, it would be a little hard with the e-brake engaged. It's easier to disengage the e-brake before the car is in the air than trying to get back inside the car after it's up in the air or having to lower the lift again. Whether the e-brake has to be off or not depends entirely on what work you are doing from my experiance.
