Default cold engine clatter

in the mornings when i first start the car, i hear a light clatter when i accelerate. its loudest at about 2500 rpm. but after it warms up i dont really hear it. could it be something major or should i just turn the radio up a little louder?

Piston slap. Pretty common. Its the cold piston rocking around in its bore until the heat expands the aluminum piston and takes up the extra play. I try and keep the rpms as low as possible until its fully warm and any cold start noise goes away.

No piston slap is pretty normal for a cold LS1 (and from what I've read most other LSx engines), unless you have it when it's warm, then it may be a more serious problem, go ahead and spend the money on the headers and gears
FWIW my 02 sounds like a diesel when it first starts, but still runs pretty good, and (knock wood) I've had no problems at all
