Default Cold Start- why the backfire?

I've got an 02 trans am with just under 10,000 miles. I've got a lid, maf, smooth bellows and borla adjustable with 3/4 plate (see sig). Rumor has it from a friend (also a TA owner, but has a '96) that these cars tend to backfire often. However it seems to me like almost everytime I start it up in the morning and drive off from my garage, the car backfires and its not the type of backfire from downshifting. Its the type that sounds like a M-80 firecracker went off or your lawnmower just blew up ( POP!!!). It does it from shifting from 1st to 2nd while not giving it much gas (to not wake up the neighbors at 6 am with my exhaust) If I really get on the throttle it sometimes, if rarely backfires. I've checked the wires and plugs, but WHAT COULD THIS BE??? Is it just the style of set up I have or what?? I want to get headers soon with ORY but wanted to make sure somethings not wrong with the car. THANKS EVEYRONE!!

Air pump injecting air into exhaust and when you let off it is still pump while cold so it backfires. Get rid of your air pump system to get rid of this and save some weight.

Does it only do it on cold starts? If not, you might want to take a look at your AIR check valves.
