Supposed to work up to about 30' in clear weather - how old is the battery? You can also try resynchronization:
Stand close to vehicle
Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for about 8 seconds
The door locks should cycle and the interior lamps should flash
If that doesn't happen you may need a new battery for the remote or have to reprogram it.

Remote re-action This may sound crazy, but try this to pick up a bit more distance from the re-action of your remote with your car. Place the remote against your chin and then press the lock or the unlock button on the remote. I have found that by doing this, I can unlock my cars doors almost double the distance from the car than I can just by pressing the button. Place the remote against your chin and give it a try.
TRUE FACT: Get on your cell phone and this increases your range by alot! The cell phone will transmit your remote entry really far. Try it out, call a buddy and while on the phone hit your remote.
