Noise at start up.

Noise at start up. When I turn the ignition and the car starts to turn over I hear a
sound that is like some one saying "shhh" loudly. I sounds like a
slip of some kind. The car just started doing this in the last few weeks.
It does it every time I start the car now. Could it be the starter going out?
The car idles fine and the belt does not squeak while running, so I think
we can rule out bad belt and ignition. What do you think guys? I usually
only hear it once per startup in between the firing of the pistons. It sounds like rr rr "shhh" rr rr vrum, and then the car starts.
The car is a 96 TA.

Sticking? How does this occur? When I looked at the LT1 starter, it would engage,
but turn the flywheel over slowly. Now with the LT4 starter in there, it happens so fast you can barely see it engage.
