Transmission Clunking: Possible Problems? Today I was driving my car to go pick up my Aunt from exercising, and I gave it about half throttle from a stop sign, didn't sqeual or spin, but a sound which seems to be coming from the transmission threw me off. It sounds like a very loud clunking, and it rattles the shifter and plastic part around it like crazy. It only does it with half-way to full throttle during acceleration. I've never had any problems with the transmission before, and it was re-built at 77k. Any possible explanations or advice would be appreciated, hopefully this isn't a huge problem.

check your tranny mount on your crossmember. cheap to buy and easy to fix. also check your torque arm mounting points for loose, broken, missing parts, bolts. check crossmember bolts as well. i don't think that your motor mounts could be the culprit i would guess that there would be more problems. but since your under there might as well check.
We have glass transmission mounts. One bad instance of wheel hop can toast it.
Crawl under there, and jack the transmission up about a half inch. It will make any cracks in the transmount much more obvious.
Particularly if the clunking is easier to make happen while turning, it is probably just the transmount. It's like a $12 service part from GM. Do not buy aftermarket unless you want to go to poly.
