How to get R-12 refrigerant.
i got a oldsmobile achieva and im fixen it up to be a daily (FREE CAR) but the a/c doesnt work and thats a no no for me and my mechanic said it was almost empty is there anyway around paying $70 bucks per lb or r-12. i know it probably has a small leak the kid i got it from said it slowly faded out over like 2 or 3 years and i dought ill have it that long anyway. what can i do here or am i stuck paying out the *** here.. i kow ive heard of some the refrigerants but idont remember there names that suosidly could mix ith r12 and r134a.

get ALL of the old (r-12) out of the system. by the "retrofit" kit i think they run like 7 or 8 bucks. then do some research and find out what kind and how much PAG oil you will need. (the standard i think is like 1 oz per unit) then add r-134a until the gauge reads full. a can of refriderant is like 8 bucks and the gauge is like 4 or 5 i think. but if you have a leak you can by what they call a all-in-one where it will have your PAG OIL your r-134a and some stop leak.
the o rings is a different story some you'll have to replace some will handle it i don't know why but if you have the time and can i would replace the o rings while i was doing all this.
