Default Faulty MAP sensor

Ok, what is MAP sensor responsible for ? Is it affecting my performance if its not working ?

I can tell you from experience dont spray nitrous when you got a bad map sensor, detation like a sumbitch, and i was definetly loosing power when mine went bad, when it shifted it took it a few seconds to get its act together agian and start accelerating. and i started gettin like 13 mph highway as well. only like a 30-40 dollar sensor, replace it.
