automatic transmission shifter help
automatic transmission shifter help this girl i know has a 98 trans am that is an automatic... she her dad ex boyfriend pretty much anyone has a problem with the button on the shifter... it wotn push in to put it in gear.. i made sure that they did have the brake pressed in when they were trying this and stuff but dont have a clue how to fix it... can you guys please help
On the front of the shifter facing the ac controls there is a c-clip. Use some needle nose pliers or a couple screwdrivers to pull out the clip. You cant miss the clip, you can even fell it with your finger. For the most part it comes out rather easy.
After you get the clip out, the **** just pulls straight up. Usually the inside of the shifter wears out or breaks. Sometimes the shift lever wears as well. Once you get the **** off it'll be self explanatory on how it works. With the **** of you should be able to press the plastic piece sticking up down to put the car in gear.
