Default Shifter Problem

How does the upper portion on the shifter come off on an A4. My button you push to get it out off park has cracked and came off. I just need to replace the plastic button itself.

Don't know if you can just buy the plastic button or not, but to get it off -turn the key to RUN, put shifter in 1st, pry out the staple on the front of the shaft with a small screw driver or needle nose plyers, pull straight up.

You didn't post what your car is. But at least on 93-02 Camaros, it looks like the button is not available separately.

Here are the part numbers for ordering the whole upper portion:

A4 control lever (shifter) **** (93-99 Camaro with RPO NP5) = 10079809
A4 control lever (shifter) **** (00-02 Camaro with RPO NP5) = 12563173
A4 control lever (shifter) **** (93-99 Camaro with RPO NK3) = 10111639
A4 control lever (shifter) **** (00 Camaro with RPO NK3) = 10163833
A4 control lever (shifter) **** (01-02 Camaro with RPO NK3) = 22680651

That's what I have on my car - black leather PN is 12563172. Got mine for around $60 in '02 - much higher now.
