Default Buddy drove through a puddle.. Hydrolocked?

I have a friend with a 01 Celica, on his way home last night he drove through a pretty large puddle and he said his car shut off and wouldnt start, once it finally did he said it was knocking a little bit and blowing out white smoke with a very poor idle. My guess is that it was hydrolocked. I have no experience with that at all, is the car screwed? Can he just let it run? Any idea's waht to do?

Yikes, sounds like bad news.

Probably hydrolocked, bent/broke a valve, maybe even did in the head gasket while he was at it. I would start with a couple compression tests, and take the head off and have a look. How long did he drive it like that?
