Default Headlight problem

The driver side headlight nylon gear I think has broken teeth, well the easy fix guide I found on here worked but I can't get the arm that holds up the light to go back on the shaft. You know the hole on the arm that is flat on two sides and curved on the other 2 sides. Any advice.

I have a extended warranty, should I just let them deal with it,but there is a 100 dollar deductible so I rather fix myslef by rotating gear 180 degrees to non broken teeth part

You should be able to draw the armature back onto the motor output shaft by bolting the nut back on. If it isnt going on, make sure it is lined up right - it will only go one 1 way because the output shaft is flat on two sides.

yeah I tryed that, but I did rotate the shaft 180 degrees to rotate nylon gear. It looks like its lined up but just won't go in. I figure I might as well have a shop just replace the whole motor if they want or the gear covered under extended warranty I hope. Do you think this is covered?

prob not since you have opened it,

Remove the 3 retaining bolts on the motor and make sure the headlight arm will fit smoothly over the shaft if it doesnt check why it may need a little cleaning and some 220 or 320 sandpaper to clear the corrosion off. if it fits ok already then the alignment is off and you need to carefully lower the headlight down until you can get it on. Sometimes if you dont get the shaft aligned back up exactly when you are aligning the gear assembly this can happen. Good luck

Yes because the motor has no stops (it works on electrical resistance of the armature hitting a bumper to stop the motor from turning) you can potentially get it back together without being properly aligned.

Well I took it in to a shop that takes GM exteneded warranty and they said $320 for headlight motor to replace but I also had a problem the fuel gauge so they said they would do both and waive 100 dollar ductible. Sounds good so far but we will see when its done
