Default battery or alternator.......?

im trying to solve this problem before i waste money heh. here are the issues.

i recently had the car tune on a dyno. nothing was changed as far as voltage or anyhting like that if thats even possible. just A/F

anyhow.

my car 2-3 times has sputtered and jerked aorund a couple times sitting still idling. like it was loosing power.

the charge meter when the key is turn over but the car isnt running shows the battery charge at the hazard lines.

when i starts the car it goes back to 13 range and fluxuates a tad like i always had.

but every now and then it will drop down when like i said idling.

well i went to autozone.. they said the battery was fine and the alternator was Giving no charge what so ever..... i think that is bull. but im not sure. but if it was giving no charge i dont think the battery would have kept a charge for 3-5 days with alot of driving/AC on /stereo.

i put a volt meter to the battery and it shows it to be barely holding a 9-10 DC range. so im trying to figure out is it the battery going bad or the alternator some how.

autozone also said the battery was fine.......... but i have no faith in them now after telling me the alternator is giving no charge at all.

the Car has No trouble staRTING what so ever. and hasnt stuttered in last 2 days. but the battery isnt recharging. any help would be appreciated.

Alternator... had the same problem a little while ago

I got a few starts after I got a refurbished alt from pep boys, but it completely died again about 2 weeks later. If your voltage isnt staying above the midpoint, then the alternator isnt giving a charge to the battery.

Alts arent hard to replace, im a newb and ive done it twice already.

Voltage regulator is built into the alternator. Best to change out the alternator. Or you could hook up a volmeter to the terminal on the back of the alternator, just to be sure. But a reading on the battery terminals will tell you what the real voltage is.

Roll the car on ramps

take off serpintine belt (15mm bolt on upper pulley passenger side).

climb under car with 15mm socket (2 bolts holding front of alt to bracket, 13mm socket (wire hook up on back of alt), 10mm socket (bolt on back of alt to attch it to the bracket), a rachet

Undo the 2 bolts in front

unclip the rain gaurd (rubber piece by alt)

reach behind and undo the 10mm bolt holding the back of the alt to the bracket

twist alt till it comes out of the bracket.

Don't pull to far, reach up on top of the alt and feel for the 1 wire harness clip, undo it. You pull to far and you take a risk of breaking the wire.

pull alt out to fan shroud, turn it, and unbolt the big wire on the back

pull alt out from bottom of car

(I have done this a few times already)
