Default this sucks

Yea this sucks so i take my car to get some exhaust and some computer stuff put on they call me the next morning and there like we think you got a rod knocking im like WTF my car has 58000 miles on it so i go up there and i get in my car take it on the street drive it no noise.I sit there at the stop sign and take it to 6500 no noise. My buddys like i dont hear it now. I go back to the shop and the mechanic up there whose supposed to be really good is like you either have a rist pin going or a rod bearing going. And this not a shop where they do motor work its a company where they make parts. So its not like they have anything to gain. The only thing my car has ever done is when i first start it after its been sittin for the night it knocks till it gets warm and then goes away. When i drive it after it warms up at 2000rpm it makes this loud tapping noise which is coming from the motor for about the first 10 min then it goes away for the rest of the day. And of course it sat for a day before they started working on it so i know thats the noise there talking about. JUST looking for some advice should i sell it is that normal THANKS

A friend of mine was experiencing the exact same problem, and all the shops were telling him it was a rod bearing. We didnt believe that b/c if it were it would be doing it all the time, not just at start up. He went to auto zone and picked a quart of lucas oil and put the quart in when he changed his oil and the knock stopped. So far no problems and it has been a few months. Hope this helps

Sounds like the same noise that I've attributed to a sticky lifter in my 86 camaro five-point-slow. What I've been told is that if it ever goes away after warming up then it's a sticky lifter cuz anything else would be constant. I don't know if that's true or not but I got it to go away once before with additives like lucas oil and rislone ect. I think it helped when I flushed my engine. But with your engine so young I wouldn't expect anything to be gunky enough to stick much. So, I dunno, but rislone is like $3 and you can add it anytime so you could try it and see what it does.

Whether it's lifter noise or piston slap, lots of LS1 owners have these kinds of tapping noises, especially when the car's cold, and nothing ever comes of it other than the noise itself. I wouldn't bother with any additives; just use good oil that's not too thin - like the GC 0-30 everybody raves about or M1 5-40.
