GC 0W30 in summer?
Well after driving to four different autozones I FINALLY found some gc 0w30, but before I dump it in my car should I look for a thicker oil? Reason being is that I live in Southern California and the temps out here can easily break the 100+* range which could be bad for thinner oils. Also i'll be going road racing in a couple of weeks and that will cause even greater temps to my engine/oil/etc. So what do you guys think? Will the GC hold up? From my searching I heard it's closer to a 40w and it's much harder to thin out this oil at high temps compared to other oils which gives me some confidence. Thanks in advance.

You are fine. The 0W number just means you have more protection on initial startup when the weather is very cold outside. The 30 number is the weight of the oil at temperature. the GC 0W-30 30 oil will give better protection in the heat than say a M1 10W-30 oil as the M1 tends to be thinner at temperature than the GC 0W-30.

"Exceeds all car and light truck manufacturer's warranty requirements for the protection of gasoline, diesel and turbocharged engines. Also meets engine protection requirements of Porsche, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes Benz."
so i would assume so? you can try it. i don't think it's going to break anything if it doesn't run well on it, change it. that simple.
i'm not the best one to ask for this since i don't know what specifications the volkswagen is manufactured to. i would consult the manual.

The range for 30W is 9.3/12.5 cST@ 100 deg.C. M1 5w30 and 10w30 are 10.0 (low end for 30w) and GC 0w30 is 12.1 (nearly 40w) that's why it's good even in the summer.

I've also heard that VW dealerships sell/use GC 0w30 in their service dept as well. FWIW, I use gc in both my ls1's as well as my gen I 355ci sbc with excellent results. It's a very versitile oil.

don't know, but i can tell you it's not worth another $3 a bottle. i'd never buy amsoil's crap. if you ask me, they're all marketing hype. i've seen their biased tests. they lost 8hp over mobil 1 0W-40 in a test i saw...and all their oil tests are done with different oils.
it'll be:
amsoil 5W-30
mobil 1 0W-40
pennzoil 20W-50
castrol 10W-30
it's like holy **** can you at least pick the same weights to see how they do? my guess is if they chose the same weights, they wouldn't come out on top. pass on amsoil IMO.
