Default Rear End

Hey, I am hearing a loud clunk from my rear end when going about 30mph. It also hapends sometimes when switching from 1st to 2nd. I have an a4 2001 ws6 25k. Iherd these beasts have a lose rear end but i think this might be worse. Does anyone know anything about this or could maybe share som insight. Thanks

what you're describing sounds like a transmission mount but its hard to imagine its at the end of its life at 25K miles but its possible. It could also be a loose u-joint or loose bearing or something. You should be able to do a visual inspection of the tranny mount. Get under the car and look at the peice that bolts to the transmission and the frame crossmember. If the rubber peice is all torn up, you need a new one. I put a new one in mine in less than 45 minutes. I was surprised how easy it was. All you have to do is....
jack up the car,
jack up the transmission slightly
take out all the bolts
slide the old one out and put the new one in.

I am having the same problem and have heard it is the transmission mount as well, I just haven't had the time to get under my car and take a look. Let us know when you find out what the culprit is.
