speedo actin up

hey guys, i wasnt sure where to post this, but yesterday for the first time, when i started my 98 firebird the needled shot up to 120 and then back to 0. Never did that before so I shut it off and tried again. This time it shot to maybe 40 and back to 0. It hasnt done it since. anyone know what it could have been?

probably have better luck in the electronics or the PCM section... instead of the fuel section.
