Default Clear Coat

Ok my clear on my 1995 firebird formula is peeling on the driver side fender and also on my driver side door. Now I know this is not my fault but the fault of the factory since clear only sticks 2 different ways. Is there anyway I can take it to gm and get them to reclear the panel and fender or Iam I wasting my time. Also its is not under warrenty and Iam not the first owner.
-Thanks Brandon

With an 11 year old car it will be a complete waste of your time. For example, the paint is flaking off the rockers on my '00 Silverado and it's starting to rust on the inside of the passanger door. I talked to the local GM body shop manager trying to get it covered under 7 year rust through protection warrenty. He was cool and explained that if it was 5 years ago he would have been able to slide something like that through under the warrenty, but with the way things are now he would never get paid by GM for doing the work.

The few hundred dollars that a shop will charge you to fix it is much better than fighting with a factory rep.

The paint and clear are only covered under the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty or the GMPP extended warranty.

If you have rust through, that is part of a federal warranty and even though the shop does not want to mess with GM is suppossed to cover it. I would suggest contacting GM about the rust through you are having.

Well it was worth a try I guess. I know a guy at the body shop maybe he will cut me a deal.

I'm not even close to having any kind of hole anywhere. Just flaked and surface rust. From what he implied, they used to beable to slide stuff in under rust through even though there was no hole. I guess GM has cracked down on stuff be "fudged" so there is no sense in fighting with them about it.

I actually just finished up spraying behind the rear tires today, came out badass for my first metallic blend. I gotta do the rockers tommorow and the fender flares monday. $200 in materials and the satisfaction of doing it myself.
